Not that it helps with John Thoms but possible parents for Elizabeth Mary may be Walter Wilson and Elizabeth Green.

This may be her birth or christening:

Elizabeth WILSON
Parents - WALTER WILSON/ELIZABETH GREEN -  CHILD 2
16/05/1851
Ref 622/140 262
Barony Lanarkshire

Two other children showing to these parents:

Walter 1845 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X1WM-LGS
George Green 1853 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X1WC-L2H

I was thinking this may the family below in 1851 (Elizabeth born after census for that year). Elizabeth Green a second wife to Walter Snr?

Walter Wilson 45 Wholesale Grocer
Elizabeth Wilson 38
John Wilson 19
Margaret Wilson 17
William I Wilson 16
Walter Wilson 5
Isabella Mcfadyen 25 servant

Address: 59 Union Street, Barony

MonicaL  Thanks very much. Elizabeth Green is Walter's wife and I think I have found his birth in Glasgow.

That is good  :) You also have details of the Wilsons heading off and arriving at Melbourne, Australia on the 'Earl Of Eglington' in Dec 1854?

Yes. Someone told me about that! I know Walter was born in 1806, a son of John Wilson and Margaret Thomson. My own Wilsons are from Nottinghamshire, but all my mother's ancestors are from Scotland!

Hopefully if you decide to order that marriage cert, as suggested by others, it will let you follow up the elusive John Irwin Thoms!
