We have the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force but just the Army. 

Can anyone tell me why?

Yes, the Army is descended from Cromwell's New Model. In 1660, most of it, 30,000 strong laid down their arms (possibly at Greenwich) to the newly returned King Charles II, and then picked up their arms again. Over time, regiments have been made 'Royal' due to outstanding service. 
Griffiths Llandogo, Mitcheltroy, Mon. and Whitchurch Here (Also Edwards),  18th C., Griffiths FoD 19th Century.
