Fighting Cocks - Bishop Auckland

Bit of a long shot but does anyone know where in Bishop Auckland was the "Fighting Cocks". My 5xGGrandfather John Garthwaite was the innkeeper there in the 1760s and left in 1768 and moved to the "Bush Inn" Carlisle.

I have a descendant Thomas James Legg b. 1855 who was Joiner & publican; the Fighting Cocks, Middleton ST George nr Darlington
Publican in 1911. sometime after 1901

Steeped in history, the pub was originally the Booking Office for passengers using the Darlington to Stockton Railway in 1825, and to this day still retains strong links. you can find stuff online. + pictures.

Interestingly the Legg family have links to the Garthwaites in the area too. There are other pubs with this name (this one now renamed Platform 1!) but this is near B Auckland so think one you mean.

Hi Diddy & Stan,
Garthwaite are a large family, the fighting cocks in Wolsingham was run by Anthony Garthwaite around 1718, supposedly married to jenny cut-throat. however his was a different line of the family.
The John I am trying to trace was born 1717 in Billy Row and married Barbara Graham in 1742.
Newspapers from the time indicate that when he left the fighting cocks in 1768 he sold what was called a substantial dwelling on the south side of Bishop Auckland market square. Other than saying it was in Bishop Auckland there were no clue as to the location of the inn.
