Bedfordshire dead ends
« on: Tuesday 10 July 18 16:27 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I've hit dead ends with the origins of these individuals:

Elizabeth Stapleton - married Burt Bass in Marston Moretaine in 1757
Francis Northwood of Maulden and Diana Goodman, married in Cardington in 1762

I'd appreciate any help!

Adam

I'd be looking at Cardington for Diana's bap, since that's where she married, and if the PR doesn't give abodes for the other couple they were very likely both bap Marston.

What resources have you checked?  If you only have access to online transcripts it can often be helpful to extract all occurrences of the surname within the same and adjoining parishes for at least generation either side of the events you have.

There is a baptism for a Dinah Goodman in Milton Ernest (about 7 miles from Cardington) in 1737 on familysearch. Parents Reuben and Mary. No actual date given, just the year.

Hi Adam
Both Elizabeth Stapleton & Birt Bass were not baptized in Marston Mortaine. On marriage entry it says Burt was from Tingrith. I'll have a look in that PR for you.

On marriage entry it says Burt was from Tingrith. I'll have a look in that PR for you.

The MM marriage on 19 May 1757 has him as "Burt" Bass of Tingrith

Tingrith PR has banns dated 24 Apr 1757 for Birt Bass to Elizabeth Stapleton of MM

Why would he be 'Burt' Bass? Is it a nickname? It's quite an unconventional name.
