Name of bride?
« on: Wednesday 11 July 18 00:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am hoping someone here will be able to help me confirm the name of the woman in this marriage entry.

The man's name is Roger Roberts and I believe the woman's name is either Frances Hills/Hylls or maybe "Hells". The marriage took place in Badlesmere in 1598

Thanks for any ideas
Matt

My thought is the name 'Frances' is far too long & the initial looks more like an 'M' (possibly Miss) if it is Frances?

It may be an idea to expand your image for letter comparison for people to help you.

I think it's the old 'double f' at the beginning of her name - you can just make out the descenders -  so 'ffrances'
The surname is 'Hils' I think - an 'i', but only one 'l'.

Thanks for that info. I too thought it might be a double f but couldn't make it out (the image was sent to me by another researcher).

Ffrances Hils is exactly what we thought it was although I did wonder about the spelling of Hils.

Thanks for the confirmation. Thanks also for confirmation the Groom's name.
