Royal visits to manor Charles 1 prior and during Civil War
« on: Wednesday 11 July 18 08:28 BST (UK) »
Hi there

Wasn't sure where to put this query. Wondering if one of my ancestors, a Charles 1 supporter, and was supposedly with him at Southam the day prior to Battle of Edge Hill

I have heard at times of where Royalty visited when they moved with their Court around the country but haven't the first inkling of where to look. My ancestor was Walter Gostelow and his home was at Cropredy Warwickshire
Many thanks for any help
Meegan

It states here

That Charles 1 stayed in Southam's new Manor House immediately before the Battle of Edgehill

Thanks jan. The reference on Southam's webpage to the battle two months before Edge Hill is the one I saw, and assume that is the Battle of Cropredy Bridge. Prescot Manor is a short distance from there so he may well have stayed at that Manor

Thank you

Thanks Jan. Even if he didn't stay there I imagine the family may have been aligned/involved wit the Royalist forces for the battle
Cheers
