I’m now thinking, as Jebber suggested, that John Sullivan could be a red herring!

I should have picked up on the fact that the address at which John died (in March 1871) is different from the address the family were at for the 1871 Census. 

They were at 31 Crown Court for the Census and Eliza was born at 37 Crown Court in 1869....guess its feasible they could have moved from 37 to 31 within the two years but unless John died at a friend or relatives house then I think I’ll have to discount him and go back to square one!

Just to say that they don't have to have moved.

Lots of roads were renumbered as a result of post office administration.  It could be exactly the same property just with a different number.
