What happened to Sarah Williams?
« on: Thursday 12 July 18 12:38 BST (UK) »
This might be quite long.  Sorry.

Sarah/Sadie Romain was born in the Netherlands in about 1889 and came to the UK with her family.  They lived in Whitechapel/Spitalfields and we have her in the 1891 and 1901 census records living with her parents Jonas and Betsy Romain in and around Whitechapel.

In January 1909 she married Harris (Harry) Chinsky and in October that year their daughter Deborah was born.

In the 1911 census she's living alone in a shared house in Whitechapel back calling herself Sarah Romain and single.  No sign of Deborah.

In 1914 she married Joseph Williams and in 1925 they have a daughter Eugenia who was born in Hackney, London.

Deborah re-appears living with her grandmother Betsy in 1939.

I've found Eugenia who (it turns out) was brought up by another of her father's wives in Essex but after 1925 Sarah/Sadie disappears.

I can't find her in 1939, as far as I can tell she didn't marry again and I can't find her name on any passenger lists.  She just falls off the planet.

I don't have an exact date of birth for her and I've investigated the obvious death in Hackney in 1958 and it isn't her.  Where aren't I looking?

Birth of Sara Romijn to Jonas Romijn and Betje Spanjar in Amsterdam.
(There also appears to be a Roosje who would fit with Rosie in the 1901 census - and registrations of siblings born in England have mother's maiden name Spanyard/Spainyard/Spaniard).

At least gives you a birthdate - 24th Feb 1890.

I'm amazed and pleased. Thank you so much. I hope this will give me some pointers.

(This went into my spam folder so I've only just seen it.)
