William Thorne
« on: Friday 13 July 18 01:18 BST (UK) »
Help.....................  I've been going along quite nicely through maternal and paternal grandparents back to late 1780's. But I've hit a brick wall with my paternal grandfather. I've picked him up on the 1939 register, the 1911 and the 1901 census's, but unable to pinpoint him before that. The 1891 census should be a good source for me, but simply unable to find him. His name is William Thorne  bron 1861 and he was married to Mary Thorne (prob Mary Ann) born 1865. They had 3 children born between 1881 and 1891, William 1884, Nellie 1886 and Lizzie 1888. I'm unable to find them as a group in 1891. Their locale is West Ham, or Leytonstone.
Do you think its reasonable to consider they were all living at different address's in 1891 or does anyone else have another feasible option. I've tried dropping the E in Thorne, but that doesn't really help much either. Many thanks in advance - richard

Sitch ?  thats great, it should mean Mary's father is John and William's father is Joseph. Coming together now, many thanks.

think I've found William in 1871 and 1881 -but he is entered as William Flack !!!

I'll explain
1891 census hads 78 year old Henry Flack b Saffron Walden Essex living with William Thorne and family and he is described as "father in law" to head of house (William Thorne)
I assumed he would be Mary's father - but no it seems he was William Thorne's step father

I'll post more in a mo
