Amazing detective work, its no wonder I struggled with all the name changes etc, are you able to see a death for Joseph, I'm assuming its before Rachel married Henry Flack in 1866.

Have you tried to find Joseph in 1841, or a baptism for him to see if you can narrow down his age to help to look for his death?

there is a tree on A******y which has  Joseph dying 1853 -before William was born??

but then there are further complications
this looks like Rachel Thorn and family in 1861 but it seems she is living as wife of someone else?

Thank you for all your efforts Suz, really appreciated. Did you notice that on the 1841 census in Gold street there was 2 entries for the "wrights"  one for John, Hannah and Rachel, the other for Maria who seems to be the wife of John with the rest of the children. Seems odd to be on separate entries. Different houses maybe or maybe Maria  did an entry and John did one also. Lots of interesting stuff, thanks again - richard
