Looking for a marriage in Brown Candover early 1800s
« on: Friday 13 July 18 16:27 BST (UK) »
Looking please for the marriage of James PATIENCE born c 1799 in Brown Candover, Hampshire to Johanna BURKE born c 1799 somewhere in Ireland.

I am quite sure they will have married in Brown Candover. I would love to have any associated information that comes with it.

I have been told sadly that Irish records have been destroyed so no hope of going back on that line, so it is Patience or nothing if you get my drift here.  ::)

Best wishes

Salty -- it is Irish census records which in the main have been destroyed -- except for 1901 and 1911.

Parish Registers still exist as do BMD registers, although Civil Registration only started in 1864 (except for non-catholic marriages which started in 1845).

Having said that - it is still more difficult to find baptisms and marriages the further back you go in Ireland (ie pre 1830). However many still exist it depends on the County. Family Search have records and Ancestry and Find My Past both have RC Parish registers. Both are subscription sites though.

I haven't looked for your Brown Candover marriage--- I was just clearing up what may be a misunderstanding about Irish records.

There are a limited number of Parish Records available on a free site;
https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

but only certain counties have been done so far - it is work in progress.

Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Thank you for that Penines, I will be having a look at the site you have given, but in reality without having any idea where in Ireland Johanna was from there is not much hope.

Hi Salty --- yes Irish research is an absolute pain in the neck! My paternal grandmother was Irish as is my husband and his family -- but at least I know where they came from.

Sorry -- I have detracted from your main enquiry -- your Brown Candover marriage. I hope someone comes up with a lead for you.

Regards and Good Luck
