Norkevicz family origins
« on: Friday 13 July 18 23:25 BST (UK) »
I am visiting Lithuania soon and wanted to know which part of Lithuania the Norkevicz/Norkus/ family are mostly concentrated or were from before immigrating.

yes and I cannot seem to get any leads on the origin or areas in Eastern Europe from where Norkus/Norkevicz name is from. So many went to America and only put the country on the papers, never the towns.

Well I don't know if it is of any help, but there are a few Norkevicz on Family Search who give a place as well as Lithuania as their birthplace.

I just entered the surname and birthplace as Lithuania.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/hr/search

If you are not already registered you will need to do that but it is free.

The Lithuanian equivalent of a last name ending is "icz* is usually "icius" or iciene". That doesn't mean your ancestor wasn't born there but perhaps close to the Polish border or even where Uncle Joe Stalin moved all those borders westwards to give him ice-free winter access to the Baltic through Kaliningrad.
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

There may not be a single origin for all the Norkevicz families.
Therefore, concentrate on your known immigrant ancestor.
When did they immigrate, and where did they end up? There are certain types of records (different depending on where they went and when) that are more likely to offer more exact placenames.
