Hi,
I am having great difficulty in establishing the correct wife of James Collier b. 1797, who died at 16 Byrtle Square, Salford aged 47 years in 1844. He was a Fustian Cutter. I also have death certificate for his wife Ann who died in 1849 aged 49 years, Widow of James Collier, Fustian Cutter.
For some years, I and other Ancestry Tree recorders have believed that James Collier married Ann Pritchard, but having done more research on Ancestry, I have found two marriages. The one to an Ann Pritchard in 1818 and another one in 1822 to Ann Parr. In the second marriage to Ann Parr, he has children born from 1822 onwards, Mary Ann b. 1822, Sarah b. 1824, John b. 1826, Ann b. 1828, Thomas b. 1831, James b. 1834, William b. 1836, Margaret b. 1838 and David b. 1840.
In the first marriage, I have found no children born from 1818 onwards, which now tends to confirm to me that his marriage was to Ann Parr, rather than Ann Pritchard.
What brought this to my attention was a DNA match to a 3rd cousin, and the only person that comes up is a "Pritchard".
I do have a copy of marriage certificate of James & Ann's son, John Collier b. 1826 (my family line) to Jane Jackson, where he is shown aged 23 years, married 1849, his father James Collier, Fustian Shearer, so I do feel that we have the right persons in my tree.
I wondered if maybe I had gone off the track, with so many Colliers in Manchester, such a common name.
Wondering if there is someone really kind out there, that may wish to check on records to confirm that I now have the right wife of James Collier please.
My best wishes and thank you in advance, I have had so much success with your site, and appreciate all help that has been given to me in the past.
Regards Jan
