Cannot locate a Rutland burial 1899. Ketton or somewhere else.
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 10:13 BST (UK) »
Calling all Rutland budding sleuths. Please can you possibly assist me in locating the burial of one of my direct ancestors. I cannot seem to find any details other than a date and place of death, yet no burial record which appears strange.
The name of the person is ANN STOREY nee DUNMORE. Born Ridlington 1826.
She married THOMAS MICHAEL STOREY in Ridlington 1850. They lived in KETTON.
Thomas died in 1867 and was buried Ketton Sept 28, 1867.
Now comes the mystery. His spouse ANN died KETTON Dec 25, 1899 but cannot find any burial record. So where was she buried. Any information would be very welcome and would solve another piece of the family puzzle. Thank you so much.

I have the LRFHS Burial index for Rutland, and whilst most parishes go up to the mid/late 1900's, the last Ketton burial is June 1881.

According to the records office the burial register ends in 1856, although there is a Memoranda Book that goes up to 1881 - the same year that the LRFHS index ends.

It may therefore be that the burial register for 1899 has not survived.

Just a thought - could the burial book still be in the possession of the church at Ketton?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Apologies - I've just re-checked and there is an additional deposit covering burials 1856-1978 so I was wrong about them not surviving.

Many thanks Jomot and BumbleB for your interest in my post and for providing vital search clues.
I have infact contacted the Ketton parish council and the churchwarden of St Marys so I look forward to their replies. Many thanks.

The burial register is available online at Findmypast but no Anne Storey. No burials recorded at all in November or December 1899.

The death was registered in Stamford, so still in the area, and perhaps the grave can be found - Same as Thomas?

Thank you David. I have this morning searched the register myself and you are correct there is no mention of Ann. She died according to her death cert Aldgate, Ketton, in the presence of her daughter. I am now wondering could she have been interred in a municipal cemetery?
I am now in the process of making enquiries to that effect.
Many thanks for your reply.
Andrew.

I have the LRFHS county burial index 1813-1990 and there is no Ann Stor(e)y burial in Rutland for that year.
