Dna with a mirror tree help
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 11:14 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to locate an unknown grandfather using my dna matches.  I made up a mirror tree and attached my dna as I have seen done online but I think I've gone wrong.  I just have the one shared ancestor hint and it is my 4th cousins parents, worse the hint says I am my 4th cousins brother 😱 My mirror tree is private and I ticked the box to say not to show it in searches but will my 4th cousin see me suddenly showing up as an unknown brother?

Oh dear!  I have never made a mirror tree, but something has gone terribly wrong with yours.

Your match will see you as a brother, if you see him as a brother.  I suggest that you disconnect the mirror tree temporarily from your DNA results and reattach your proper tree. If you want to carry on with the mirror tree, carefully look at it again to see where you have gone wrong before reattaching.

All the best

😱😱 I had already unattached my dna from the tree, hopefully my cousin isn't as crazed about checking for matches as me!

I can't see the advantage of a "mirror tree". Its just seems to require me to duplicate any update to my "original" tree.

I am confident that a full and rational explanation will follow shortly...
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

A link that may be helpful

also it has a link to

which is also good, IMO.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
