Trying to find more info on couple William James Colvin and his wife

Hi Ryan, on the NZ Electoral roles, they are the only COLVIN listed at the address'. The Rolls are alphabetical by surname, so there may be other people at the address, just not registered as COLVIN.

WH Tongue was an old established funeral directors firm in Auckland, absorbed in 1996 with the equally established Sibuns. The latter holds the records for both firms.

If you contact Sibuns, having the date of William's service handy (which is on the Purewa Cemetery record) you can ask if they might be so kind as to tell you the details of the record they hold - it will generally include information on family members to some degree. They may even be willing to email you copies of the newspaper notices if they are on file there. Ask leading questions, such as:  what does it say about spouse, parents, siblings, children etc - all or any which might be included.

I've always rung funeral directors,  but I know a lot of people also email.

I would love to know if this couple had any children

As Williamina was born 1906 not 1911 as per her Australian Arrival Card, she would have been 46 when they left Scotland in 1952.  No chn on passenger manifest and if any born Scotland they would have been under 16 years as she was married in 1936.   Getting on a bit for childbirth post 1952.

Interesting where can I see her birth as 1911? What record is that recorded on , I would like to see it if possible ,as I have double checked the entry on Scotland’s people and she was born 1906 haven’t downloaded the cert yet

Going by the ancestry tree she died in Australia can anyone help there ?

Looks like William James colvin her husband had died and she perhaps moved on to Australia as she seems to have lived a good bit longer


Can anyone explain the couples visit to Australia that was mentioned in one of the posts

Ryan - maybe they had family connections in Australia ?

They seem to have travelled a few times between New Zealand and Australia. Date of birth for Williamina varies between 1906 and 1911

There was a John, Williamina, William and Marion COLVIN arriving Fremantle WA in 1963.  Their intended address was Hardy Road, Belmont, WA.

Joan smith Colvin would have perhaps been a sister of William James colvin rather than sister to Williamina

This could potentially lead us to finding more out about the William
And Marion colvin
