May Southern, died 1974, help finding her children.
« on: Sunday 15 July 18 10:53 BST (UK) »
May Southern who died in the Durham Area on the 10th of April 1974 has left a family history mystery, because i believe her maiden name was Smith, hench my trouble at correctly identifying her children, she appears with her husband Alfred Southern in the 1939 register but her three children are closed in the record, yes i know the reasons and so forth with the 100 year rule.
May and Alfred married in the Durham area in the June QTR of 1917 but did live also in the Marston/Northwich area of Cheshire.
Alfred is buried at Marston , he died in 1955.
May is buried at Ropery lane Chester le street in Durham.
My family mystery involves a relation using DNA which connects to myself and a few others who come down from a common relation on Alfreds side , the Southern family, i am trying to find the few people left to check who they where and if any of them went to Canada or even the USA.
Any help or a fresh set of eyes on this would be very welcome.
David in New Zealand.

There were  5 Southern boys and one girl born in Durham, mother Smith, 1918 – 1929. You can check the names on freebmd etc. They cannot be published on this site as they may still be living.
There were 3 others born elsewhere in the county.

On An…ty there are 143 Southern's born in the above period who left the UK.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

If you note down the Southern/Smith children born in Durham and then check for marriages in Northwich after 1939 you should see a few possible matches.
