Finding my Gp help plz for a newbie
« on: Sunday 15 July 18 11:10 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Just been recommended by a member and hope you can help me get started on the ancestry trail , iam looking for my grand parent
George edward Yates, I know who he married and found wedding certificate / banns.
But I don't know his birth date or his family other than basically his name and wife
So I can get any further because I want to make sure I have the correct person before embarking on further searches
Can you view birth certificates with our buying first ?
Can I add more information  ie wife etc here ?
Thanks in advance

Welcome!

You could start with what Country and approx dates....
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Welcome Bluemoonbaz,

Edit: crossposted - just saw your reply.
Could you also mention the occupations of the groom and of his and his bride's father? And Witness names?

Unless it's a privacy issue ( Rootschat rules are that we don't post details on people who are still living, or out of respect for surviving family - those who are perhaps recently deceased),  can you tell us more about him?   Such as locations, approximate dates of birth, marriage, death, name of wife etc.   If in doubt,  don't post identifying details.

Generally you have to buy the Birth Certificate to see the details - but depending on when and where an event occurred, you can sometimes still establish some information, like baptisms, mother's maiden name etc etc.

Cheers
AMBLY

Do you know when your grandfather died and where?   There is a death registration in Walsall - 1977 - which gives a birth date of 16 October 1901.  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Not for certain when I asked around I was lead to believe it was in Manchester around 1969
But it's hearsay

I looked for a marriage for father George Edward Yates and found this:

26 December 1896 - Albert Memorial Church, Collyhurst:

George Edward Yates, bachelor, 26, Furrier.  Father:  William, Pork Butcher
Mary Emma Stringer, widow, 26.  Father:  John Carden (deceased)

Birth Registration:

George Edward Yates - June quarter 1901 1902, Prestwich.  GRO gives mother's maiden name as Carding.
