Do you know when your grandfather died and where?   There is a death registration in Walsall - 1977 - which gives a birth date of 16 October 1901.  :-\

Not for certain when I asked around I was lead to believe it was in Manchester around 1969
But it's hearsay

Possibly Mar 1969 George E Yates, aged 66 in Heywood
Heywood is 9 miles out of Manchester

Would give a birth around 1903 compared to the 1901 - however it's not unheard of for people to 'close' the age gap a little when there is a gap in marriage

Image is available for the Kirkham marriage on Ancestry.  I'd suggest that John's occupation is Clogger  :-\

Hi,

Image is available for the Kirkham marriage on Ancestry.  I'd suggest that John's occupation is Clogger  :-\

Image also available on familysearch & would agree with BumbleB that occupation is indeed that of Clogger.

Kind regards

1901 Census:

George E Yates   30   Marr.   Furriers Labourer      b.Manchester
Elizabeth Dockerty wid. 43   mother in law (?)          ditto
Mary J. Dockerty   22 sister in law                           ditto
William Dockerty 14   brother in law                        ditto
John T. Dockerty  12      ditto                                  ditto
Jane Yates 4   daughter                                           ditto

Don't know where wife Mary Emma was, nor can I figure out how Elizabeth Dockerty was mother in law when his wife's maiden name was Carden.

Daughter Jane was reg'd as Jane Victoria Yates, mmn Carden, in Sept.qtr.1897 Manchester which fits with birth entry found already for George Edward in 1902.

Things are complicated on the next census re. Christian names - suggest you look for a William and Emma Yates - unfortunately we are not allowed to post all the details from 1911 census due to copyright.

At least one other daughter Agnes Winifred Yates, mmn Carden, birth reg'd Jun.1910.

Annette
Does this mean George edward ggp could be down as a different name on the census  ? Is this a common event ?
Thank you for your help

Hi,

Featherstone Family in 1881: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27G-TPN7

(RG11/3901/8/9) Bowker Street, Gorton, Lancs (Gorton is next door to Hulme)

Samuel Featherstone  Age 38  Patternmaker (Artzn (Artizan)) Born Hulme, Lancs
Ann Featherstone  Age 39  Born Hulme, Lancs
Lucy Featherstone  Age 19  Servant at Home  Born Hulme, Lancs

It should be noted that both Samuel & Ann should in fact be 42, however they appear to have knocked some years off their ages!

Hope this helps anyway.

Kind regards

David
