Well, I'm guessing they are farms - I haven't been there - but they look like farms on the old O.S. One-inch map.

Oddly, West Coaltown isn't actually named on the newer 1:50,000 map.

Doesn't the names of places gradually evolves over the time? Perhaps that was the case with West Coaltown?

I would imagine back in the day, given the proximity, there was probably only 1 road/track dividing those farmlands but over time the whole area seems to be as one (Coaltown of Balgonie) & I noticed Tullybreck Farm is still in existence.

They come under the Parish of Markinch.

Strathore/Thornton come under the parish of Kirkcaldy although there's only a distance of approx. 3.5 miles between Markinch & Thornton.
