Age was 18 (officially).  The Special Reserve was a form of part time service, it was not the same as serving and then going on the reserve.  By a stretch then an 1897 man fibbing about his age could be a special reservist in 1914.

The medal rolls are quite clear that SR 8122 Edgar Brown of KSLI was previously 1874 of S Lancs so he is the soldier who was writing.  As he doesn't belong to William and Rebecca (are they absolutely sure) then don't know.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe
