Looking for Hornsby (Cumberland/Northumberland/Durham)
« on: Thursday 19 July 18 07:41 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I feel it's all to easy to wander off down the wrong family line, so I'm hoping someone might just be able to confirm a couple of details.

My 3x great-grandfather John Hornsby
b 7 MAY 1797 Longbenton, Northumberland, England
d APRIL 1854 Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland
married a Sarah Walton (b 1802) of Alston, Cumbria in 1827.

It's his father, Thomas and mother, Elizabeth (nee Turner) that I can't confirm back beyond. Does anyone have them in their tree or have information about them?
Many thanks in advance

Welcome to Rootschat,

I have a side line of Hornsbys in my Tree but no link to yours.
I did notice a Deemster and variants and wife Isabel Hornsby were baptising children in Longbenton around the same time as your Thomas/Elizabeth were.
DEAMSTER Hornsby was buried 10 Oct 1834 age 74 (1760)
Isable was buried 1800 age 34, Wife of Deemstor, she was nee Mills according to Burial
They married 1787
(FreeREG)

There is a possible christening for Deemster Hornsby 19 September 1762, Jarrow, Durham
Father THOMAS
(Familysearch.Org)

So is he a sibling of your Thomas, possibly.

Trish :)

Thomas/Elizabeth Baptised Longbenton;
John 1797 as you know
Isabella 1799, died 1803 (mother nee Turner)

As Thomas/Elizabeth married 1787 there must be other children born c 1788-1796 elsewhere.

There are 2 possibles Horton by Blyth;
Ann 1788
Elizabeth 1791

EDIT looks possible
Burial;
Longbenton
24 May 1802, ELIZABETH Hornsby age 11*, Daug of Thomas/Elizabeth
Abode East Benton Colliery, died 22 May
+
ANN Hornsby 22 May 1797, no age given, Daug or Thomas, abode East Benton Colliery
(FreeREG)

Sorry cant find Thomas/Elizabeth Burials anywhere in Northumberland.
