Just for information, IGI has these 2 separate children/families:

John Hornsby
christening: 7th May 1797   Longbenton, Northumberland
father: Thomas Hornsby   mother: Elizabeth

John Hornsby
christening: 14th July 1796 Longbenton, Northumberland
father: Deemster Hornsby  mother: Isabel
Indeed my understanding is from
England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

Name    John Hornsby
Gender    Male
Baptism Date    07 May 1797
Baptism Place    Longbenton,Northumberland,England
Father    Thomas Hornsby
Mother    Elizabeth
Household Members
John Hornsby
Elizabeth
Thomas Hornsby

Any help is much appreciated.
Hopefully something will come to light regarding Thomas and Elizabeth. The Deemster route seems to be well documented.

am I looking at the correct John ,late of Blenheim St Newcastle
John Hornsby agent died 30th April 1854

Many thanks for the replies

My understanding is from

Father    Thomas Hornsby
Mother    Elizabeth
Household Members
John Hornsby

Thomas Hornsby

The Deemster route seems to be well documented, but something tells me this is not right, and from my recollection, Deemster didn't have a brother, Thomas, although I could be mistaken.

I do have John's death recorded at Apr-May-June 1854 Newcastle Upon Tyne from
England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index

I'm sure something will come to light, that's what makes it interesting.

Hi,
I believe so.

Thanks for this additional information, where did you discover it?

Sarah (c.1802), his wife, daughter of William Walton (c.1765) and Sarah Brown and sister to William Walton (c.1800).

I hadnt looked at Census entries for John before and just have and I must say I am confused.

1851 Census we have;
Westgate, Northumberland
John HORNSBY, 54, Head, Mar, Clerk to Iron Founder, born Northd, Benton
Sarah Hornsby, 37, Wife, Mar, born Northd, Newton on the Moore
Adolph Ewphotey, 21

1851 we also have;
Heworth, Durham
Sarah Hamsley, 50, Head, WIDOW**, Housekeeper (Pauper) born Alston, Cumberland***
Ann Hamsley, 23, Daug, born Alston
Matthew Hamsley, 20, Son, born Alston
Elizabeth Hamsley, 17, Daug, born Northumberland
Sarah Hamsley, 13, Daug, born Northumberland
Joseph Hamsley, 10, Son, born Benton, Northumberland
Margaret Hamsley, 7, Daug, born Heworth, Durham
Joseph Liddell, 30, Relative
Abraham English, 27, Lodger

So something wrong here or am I going crazy ???

Looks to me the John Hornsby who married Sarah Walton 1827 has died by 1851 and is not the same John who died 1854 and was a Clerk to the Iron Founders.

One last thing which reasonably matches 1851 Census for Sarah the Widow;

Name:   Sarah Walton
Gender:   Female
Birth Date: 3 Aug 1802
Baptism Date: Sep 1802
Baptism Place:   Alston,Cumberland,England
Father:   William Walton
Mother:   Sarah Brown

Looks to me the John Hornsby who married Sarah Walton 1827 has died by 1851 and is not the same John who died 1854 and was a Clerk to the Iron Founders.

This is my understanding to.
I have them in the census of 1841 living at Byker, Northumberland, England as
John Horsesby M 30-34,
Sarah Horsesby F 30-34
Ann Horsesby F 13,
Matthew Horsesby M 11
Elizabeth Horsesby F 7,
Sarah Horsesby F 3,
Joseph M 1 Northumberland

Two different families with nearly identically named children?

The Father, John I have listed as a drummer
(Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges, 1715-1925)

Again, I'm not 100% certain, but this may explain the different birth town of his children.

Many thanks for this additional info, who said this was straight forward?

To me the John above died before 1851 where Sarah is a Widow.

The other John/Sarah in 1851 are a different couple.
She is much younger than John, no children with them and he is born c 1797 Longbenton.
I havent found them in 1841 Census.

The John HORNSBY who married Sarah WALTON only appears on the 1841 Census so we have no idea where was born.

There children are born various places as he was a Miner

Can we back up a bit please?

Who are you descended from that led you to John Hornsby/Sarah Walton as their Parents?
When/where/who did they marry?

Trish :)
