The 1891 census index at Scotland's People lists two five-year-old Colin McFadyens, one in Kilchoman and one in Govan.
From the census index on SP there are the following M(a)cFadyens
1891, Kilchoman 6/11: Barbara, 64; Dugald, 23; Colin, 5.
1891, Govan 27/27: Colin, 57; John, 38; Annie, 34; Donald, 30.
1891, Govan 29/7: Jane S, 26; Colin, 21; Colin, 5; Annie, 3; Elizabeth, 1.
1901: Govan 47/7: Colin, 70; Annie, 39; Dougald, 31; Colin, 15
1901: Govan 29/30: Colin, 40; Jane, 37; Annie, 13; Elizabeth, 11; Robert, 8; Alexander, 6; Barbara, 3.
1911, Govan 30/18: Colin, 50; Colin, 25; Annie, 23; Elizabeth, 21; Robert Shepherd, 19; Alexander, 16; Barbara Ferguson, 13.
Noting the death of Barbara McFadyen, other surname Ferguson, in Govan in 1898, and a marriage of Colin McFadyen to Jane Shepherd (not Hart) in Govan in 1884, I deduce the following
Colin McFadyen and Barbara Ferguson had at least 5 children
Ann, born 1856
Colin, born 1858
Donald, born 1860
Alexander, born 1862
Dougall, born 1864 (his birth certificate will tell you the date and place of his parents' marriage)
Colin born 1858 married Jane Shepherd in 1884 and had
Colin, born 1885
Annie Shepherd, born 1887
Elizabeth Shepherd, born 1890
Robert Shepherd, born 1892
Alexander, born 1894 died 1979
Barbara Ferguson, born 1898 died 1986
Suppose that Colin was counted twice in the 1891 census, once with his parents and once staying in Argyll with his grandmother, and that the 21-year-old Colin's age in the 1891 census index is a mistranscription of 31, and it all fits together.
Jane McFadyen, other surname Shepherd, died in Govan in 1910.
I wonder if the 76-year-old Colin McFadyen who died in Kilchoman in 1901 was Barbara Ferguson's widower?
However it doesn't prove anything because it doesn't match what Amelia said in her first post.
Amelia, you have to go back to basics. Was Annie McLeod your great-grandmother? If so, you need to buy a copy of the marriage certificate of Colin McFadyen and Annie McLeod in 1915 to check what Colin's father's name really was.
If his marriage certificate says his father was Colin, the answer to your original question is probably that your great-great-grandmother was Jane Shepherd. If his marriage certificate says his father was Dougal (or some variation), then most of this thread is about as much use as a fish flapping about in the bottom of a fisherman's boat - lots of activity but basically going nowhere.
If you don't know for certain that the name of your great-grandmother was Annie McLeod, you need to go forward another generation or two until you find a provable fact, and then start working back again.
