William Collinson in 1911 - quick lookup please
« on: Friday 20 July 18 02:50 BST (UK) »
Hello team,

I am far from a library that offers access to the census,
so can I ask someone to look up a record for me?

1911: William Collinson, born "Stotleybridge" 1848, living in Tow Law, widower.
The record exists but I can't access the finer points that I need.

I would like to know how many children he claims to have had, and how many of them have died.
I would also like to know how many years he claims his marriage to have lasted.
Both these items should be visible on the 1911 form.

For anyone that is keen, this is part of a broader search for the man and his family.
They do not appear in the 1881 census and so I am wondering if they went overseas for a decade.

Any and all help very much appreciated.

Cheers
-David C

Use FamilySearch and see if it has the census info you need.  It's free but you can Abe to register /log in.
Rutter, Sampson, Swinerd, Head, Redman in Kent.  Others in Cheshire, Manchester, Glos/War/Worcs.
RUTTER family and Matilda Sampson's Will:

Familysearch doesn't list all the information on the form.
The items I am looking for can only be seen a scanned image of the form.

The finer points you want to know are only given for the wife of the marriage and William is a widower so the information has been omitted/scrubbed out.

There is a marriage of a William Collinson June 1/4 1874 Weardale registration district (which includes Tow Law) The possible brides are Elizabeth Natrass and Margaret Peart.

Thank you for clarifying, Crisane. I didn't know that distinction between fathers & mothers on the 1911 census.

William Collinson has a lookalike born in Tow Law in 1849.
The marriage you found would be the marriage of this other fellow.

The William I am tracing was born in Q3 1847 and married Hannah Routledge in 1870-71.
They had a daughter named Jane Ann in 1871.
The family were in Corsay in March 1871, where William was a miner.
The family disappear in 1881.

Hi
You can use the GRO index to search for births an it now gives the mother's maiden name. You have to register but it is free to use.

Already up to speed on the GRO, thanks Crisane.

I did a thorough search for births under surname Collinson + mmn Routledge, allowing for alternate spellings and am pretty sure that Jane Anne was the only child born (in the UK). Finding a comment on the 1911 form would have been final corroboration of that or evidence of an overseas birth.

I have a note from my research a few years ago that Hannah Collinson died about 1905.
Can we verify that she is indeed our William's Mrs?
