Help deciphering my direct ancestors will - dates to 1814
« on: Friday 20 July 18 05:01 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I am new to this deciphering business, and though I have spent the past three years expanding my family tree and researching, I am only now beginning to verify and build on individuals stories and records, including this will I recently discovered on Ancestry.com. I would really appreciate any help, as I can get a general feel for what he is directing but I am missing a lot of detail. The will is my great-great-great-great grandfather Peter Kernots, and I found it online today.

I have linked the two images I have of the will, I am specifically interested in the will of Peter Kernot, not the other wills that reside above and below his on the two pages.

Any help MUCH appreciated!!

Grace

Welcome to Rootschat, Grace.

I have made a start on the detail from the first section as below.  This should help give you a feel for the handwriting.

...late of James Street Manchester Square but now of Berwick Street Soho in the City and

Liberty of Westminster Carpenter...
[3 lines of standard will stuff]...And

I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Peter Kernot Carpenter Son of my Brother Joseph

Kernot of the Parish of Breamore in the County of Southampton ffarmer All those
[? - may be line filler

several Leasehold Messuages or Tenements and Premises with the Appurt(enance)s thereunto

respectively belonging situate and being No.5 Lisson Grove South and No.42 James

Street Manchester Square in the County of Middlesex...

Note:

1.  County of Southampton = Hampshire
2.  Looking at Ancestry's PCC will list it appears likely that the Nephew also has a will (in 1843).

Thank you so much! That really helps a lot, I think I have most of it now, but thanks for the start, you were right; it did help me to get started.
