John Pelly Galway and Dublin.
« on: Friday 20 July 18 19:42 BST (UK) »
I've been searching for a while for some more information on a John Pelly. I'm specifically looking to see if I can find his parents and or siblings names and I can't seem to come up with anything (but I am a beginner at genealogy so I'm not sure how to dig deep). So I do have some info on him. He married Ellen Sellars (sometimes sellors) who was born in 1841. They had my great grandfather Michael in 1874 (there were other children also...just have my great grandfathers info written down as of now).
Any help is greatly appreciated. If someone could just point me in the right direction that would be great!!!!
Also, we are assuming he came from the Galway area but they did end up in Dublin eventually.

Thanks again!!!!!

Start with what you know
Michael's birth
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1875/03115/2142529.pdf
born 1 George's Place, father a labourer.

Find the eldest child to get an idea when the parents married, the marriage will give father's names.
Do you know what religion they were?

John Joseph born 1865
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03543/2304322.pdf
8 Geroge's Place

I don't see any children in 1864 so any earlier children won't have birth certs. Civil Registration started in 1864.

Looks like Ellen was still alive in 1901

gives birth place as Ballinasloe, good chance John came from the same area, also she is RC so parish registers will hopefully cover the dates needed.

They would be catholic:-). I’ve tried to locate marriage records for John and Ellen thinking that would give me parents names  but all I keep coming up with is their children and their birth records.

1911 gives a few more clues, 6 children 3 living.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Royal_Exchange/George_s_Place/75501/
John is dead so if 1901 is correct he died some time between the censuses.
Married 30 years, but is that from the time of the census or the time of John's death.
30 years would only be c1881 so that can't be the correct Ellen.

This isn't adding up, if she is 79 in 1911 she would have married at 49, hardly had 6 children from 49 onwards.
Something isn't right.

I did take a look at the microfilms but there is so much to take in and so difficult to read:-(.   Unfortunately I just may ever know. I just have not come up with anything other than his children's baptisms:-(

I'm assuming that they misread 70 as 79 as I have her birthdate as 1841 and in 1901 she was 60:-)
