Georges father was Thomas Ellis, GEORGE & Thomas were labourer's
Charlottes father was Edward Whitley, a baker

George's Service Records are on FMPast-clerk born Wigan . He wasn't married in 1878 and seemed to have  health problems whilst serving.
I can't read all the places he was stationed (or in hospital).. Bury,Portsmouth,Devonport,Jersey,Sligo,Mulligan,Dublin....

Geez-don't have a clue.

I have found him dying in a Didsbury workhouse/lunatic Asylum 1914, whilst his wife declares herself a widow on c 1911!! So I guess you are right about the health problems' thanks for your interest.
