Thomas Meredith b1717 Trebrys, Llanrhaiadr YM, Denbighshire

I have my 5 x GGrandfather marrying Catherine  Wood in Montgomery 1747. He is listed as a widower, but cannot final an earlier marriage nor a record of his first wife's death. Both of these must have happened between 1737-1747. Is anyone able to help?

How sure are you that is the correct marriage? I've been checking the Llanrhaedr ym Mochnant registers for Meredith events and the baptism of Catherine in Sept 1751 notes that she is the base child of Thomas Meredith and Catherine so they would not appear to be married at that time.

David, father of Thomas, died in 1751 and his will is available from the NLW

I have a record of the marriage and it certainly is the right Thomas Meredith. It still leaves me wondering about his first wife??

where was the 1747 marriage? In Montgomery itself or Montgomeryshire? Does it mention that Thomas is of Llanrhaeadr ym Mochant? It doesn't seem to be in the parish registers online that have copies of the register.

If the daughter is noted as base, it puts doubt on the marriage being correct.

must be a parish entry at that stage. You can upload a parish record to these pages I think but not GRO certs.

I'm not sure about this Meredith but I seem to have the same names as you in my family tree i.e. Merediths/Evans from Llangynog, Hughes from Llangedwyn/Llansilin.  Perhaps you could get in touch some time.
