Help with locating a photo George Streater (1821 - 1893)

This is the only section I feel this request loosely comes under.

I found a photo, purportedly of my 3x great-grandad, George Streater (1821 - 1893) on Ancestry. However, my account is not premium and I cannot contact the owner of the photo. The photo I can access is a small and pixelated one, and I'd very much like to see the full image, not just this reduced tiny one. I'd love to know any details about the photo too!

The image Adam refers to is from a publicly available tree so I am assuming it is okay to reproduce and restore on RC. So here are the original and my try at a restore.

Peter...My understanding of the rules is that we are not allowed to manipulate photos drawn from the internet without the owner's permission and that rule has been in place for a long time.

I am trying to contact the owner but I don't know who it is I presume it's a relative if they possess this photo. I'd like to see the full photo, presuming that this was taken from it by the owner.

It's just the picture itself seems too small to be the picture taken. I'd like to contact the owner to see if the picture online is part of a larger photo that might contain other relatives and other information.

Then why not take up a free trial with Ancestry Adam then you can make contact with the owner and as for their permission to use it and to share information.

Regarding use of the photo, I find the instructions a little ambiguous. My interpretation has been that ownership and copyright ownership are different; if copyright has expired the present owner of the photo doesn't "own" the copyright, so the right to use the photo is not theirs to give. If it is then posted on a public member's tree it would appear to be ripe for picking.
 
I apologise if my take on it is wrong; it would be good to get it clarified.
