Hi. I am trying to trace my great-grandfather on my mother's side. His name was Jack Cheeseman. However we are not convinced he was born as Jack.
From his marriage certificate to my great-grandmother he is Jack Henry Cheeseman, aged 35, living at 4 Church Terrace, Leamington Spa, Bachelor, Occupation Chauffeur. He married Ena Maud Short on 12th July 1926 and his Dad, John Cheeseman, Occupation Farmer, is annotated as deceased.
From the copy of his death certificate he is Jack Frederick Harry Cheeseman, aged 65, lived at 74 Mere Green Road, Sutton Coldfield when he died, Occupation A Checker (Electrical components manufacturer). He died on 8th June 1954.
His age is clearly wrong on one of these as how can he be 35 in 1926 and then 65 in 1954??
I cannot find a record of his birth anywhere. I think he was actually called John but as that was his Dad's name they called him Jack. The only record I have of his Dad is from the marriage certificate. I don't know if Jack is actually from Warwickshire, it's just his last known address.
Jack could have been known as Jack, Henry, Harry, Jack Frederick, Jack Henry, Jack Harry, John Frederick and all names combined, the third "e" in Cheeseman may well have been omitted too.
If anyone has any idea of how I can trace Jack and his family this would be amazing. My grandad is still alive but doesn't remember much of his Dad and he never met his grandparents on Jacks side.
Thank you.
