Ernest Howe - Royal Australian Navy WWI photo for clean and colour
« on: Sunday 22 July 18 08:28 BST (UK) »

Ernie was aged 19 years of age when he joined the Royal Australian Navy, in 1916.  His naval records state that he was 5 ft 5 inches tall, with a fresh complexion brown hair and hazel eyes.

He is badly in need of a clean up, he's a bit frayed around the edges, which is not surprising seeing the photo is 102 years old.  If someone would like to have a go, colour would be nice.

Thanks and kind regards,  Aussielass :)

Thanks Pat, you have worked wonders with a very damaged photo!

Hi Al...Lovely photo and a great scan...A "Wash & Brush up" for the handsome young man.
Carol
Hi Carol, thanks for giving Ernest a much deserved "wash and brush up", you have done a great job, Ernie looks terrific.  Regarding the scan, my theory is, "If all the wonderful people who restore our photo's give their time and expertise, the very least we can do, and should do, is to provide the best scan possible for people to work on!!  I usually have to resize all my photos to make sure they are under the acceptable size, and I "fiddle like an old hen scratching" ha ha!!  to make sure they are as clear as I can possibly get them, and not pixelated.  So, thank you and all the other restorer's who give their time freely! :-*

A try from me, John.
Thanks John, a lovely restoration, it looks great! :)

A colour from me too.
Carol
Thanks again Carol, you have done a fabulous job, Ernest looks fantastic! He was my great auntie's husband.  I can only vaguely remember seeing my great aunty, when I was a very young child, and I never met Ernest.  They lived in a different state to us, and recently I was researching on "find a grave" and left a memorial for Ernest's grandson (who died young), later to be contacted by Ernest's great grand daughter.  Hence the reason for "Ernest's" photo restoration.

His great-grand daughter has never seen a photo of him and I'm sure she will be over the moon with the wonderful restorations you have all done, so "A big, big thank you to one and all".

Kind Regards, Aussielass. :)
