RB --- I am a nerd so I subscribe to both.

On Find My Past you have the old Newspapers which are very useful -- also old Military Records if any of your ancestors turns out to have been in the Military.

If ever you are searching a census or a parish register (or indeed anything using one of the search screens) --- and you cannot find your ancestor you can try using wildcards -- ie an asterisk * after first 3 letters OR before first 3 letters in a name on either Find My Past or Ancestry. (I expect someone to jump in and tell me I'm wrong about this, but it has worked for me).

Also it is worth making use of the A-Z of Record Collections -- just input a key word such as a place name or county - or crime - or workhouse, school, probate or whatever, just to see if any dataset comes up covering your area, or aspect of interest. (I mentioned this before in a previous post, but you may not have noticed it - as the Super Sleuths were finding lots of interesting records about your family - so quite understandable that you would concentrate on that -- so sorry for repeating myself if you did pick it up).
I’ll give that a go thanks again

Hi again, Arthur James and Elizabeth Bown were both witnesses to the marriage of May Bown to George Frederick Noble 17th February 1917 All Saints, Battle Bridge, Islington
The couple had one child George Frederick Noble 1917, and May remarried a Frederick William Reddell, March qtr 1927 Edmonton and her death was Dec qtr 1975 Enfield.

Think possibly Elizabeth marries a Leonard W Tricker Sept qtr 1927 Holborn.

Hi All
Just wanted to give you all a update
Following all your recommendations we managed to track down more information than we could ever have hoped for. Firstly we discovered that following his fathers death he, along with his sisters and we presume mother were made homeless and put into the workhouse by police order. They only stayed a couple of weeks and then their mother took them out, this process was repeated a number of times before ultimately the sisters were placed in orphanage we don’t know what happened to Arthur at this point as the next information we have is the 1911 census where he is living with his uncle aged 18.
The other interesting fact we found was that his grandfather had his own business but from what we can find out had nothing to do with them, shame when he may have been able to keep the family together following his sons death.
Thank you all again, unfortunately the more you find out the more problems you come up against. We are now trying to get more on Arthur’s father,
Arthur Thomas Bown 1869-1901 so if anyone has come across him in there trees any information would be a help.

1881 - I suspect Harriet is second wife and possibly not Arthur's mother.

The details for James fit the marriage of Arthur Thomas & Elizabeth Stotter

James Brown    58 - bookbinder & porter
Harriet Brown    34
James Brown    20
Frederic Brown    19
Edward Brown    14
Arthur Brown    12 - b Holborn
Albert Brown    9
Henry Biggs    10 - stepson
Joseph Brown    1

RG11, 345,  45, 30

1871 in Finsbury? Arthur is listed transcribed by Ancestry as a a servant, which I think unlikely given his age!

Elizabeth Godbold    49
William Godbold    21
Robert Godbold    16
August C Godbold    14
Frederick Godbold    11
Jonathan Godbold    10
James Bown    11
Frederick Bown    9
Edward Bown    5
Arthur Bown    1 - b St Andrews, Middlesex
Joseph Dibdie    45
