Hi Gerry,
A couple of the subscription sites show indexes to the parish records so it is a bit easier to find people.

I can’t see Edward and Ellen Crosdell in deaths and census  ???

Can you give a link please?

Heywood

Ellen Crosdell died a spinster in Portumna in 1910. If that is our girl, that narrows it even further. After her death, an Edward Crosdell (in the 1911 census) was in the same street

Only 5 Edwards in Portumna 1911....   http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mek/

Can you post the LINK??

My apologies - I confused the surnames. It was ellen Kennedy and Edward Kennedy, not Crosdell.

Folks, you have been so helpful in the past I want to ask your help again, but also give you an update.
The update is that I found the information for the lad in Artane. The trouble was that, when his birth was registered (by Rose Farrell - who ran the nursing home in which he was born) both mother and father's names were given incorrectly. The father's surname was correct, and the mother's Christian name (a helpful "Mary")!
So armed with the date of her death, which we had known, I went to Glasnevin cemetery records. It turns out that both parents were buried there, in separate graves. There is a very helpful genealogist there, Lynn Baker. Very quickly, with her help, the whole tree began to appear, on both sides of the boy's family.

It now remains for me to find out on which side of his tree we are connected. To that end, could you tell me of any marriage record for Catherine Crosdell and James Kennedy? The good thing about Crosdell is that there aren't too many of them around. The bad thing is that there are so many variations of the name.
Many thanks
Gerry

Thanks for the update.

With regard to Catherine Crosdell and James Kennedy, do you mean a marriage to each other?
If not, do you have an approximate year and area?

Thanks Heywood.
Yes, I mean to each other. The rest is pure speculation. Given the lack of travel at the time, most marriages being local, I presume Portumna. Also given that the birth of the first child recorded was in 1832, I presume the marriage was a few years before that.

If you go to

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

and just put   Crosdell    in, then you get 50 records to study.    Births 39 Marriages 11

and then put Crossdell in.... one result!
