Robert Ross Rowan
« on: Tuesday 24 July 18 07:48 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Greetings from Australia.

I am trying to find any information I can on Robert Ross Rowan born c 1730. Robert is the son of Alexander Rowan (1695) born Rathfryland,  Down and Elizabeth Moore.
I have tried to check through Ancestry family trees but the information seems to be a bit confused and I haven't had any luck with FamilySearch or Irish web sites. However I did find mention of Rvd Robert Ross Rowan in Land Assessment, Ireland Valuation Books, 1838, Ardglass, Count Dow. His family trees have many Reverends in his Ancestors.

To confuse matters it would appear that his son is also Robert Ross Rowan.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks aghadowey

The information you have given me is most interesting and I am sure relates to the right family.

I am not sure where I will go from here however it may eventually come together. All pieces of information help and are most appreciated.

Many thanks BallyaltikilliganG for that information.

Of great interest to me is where the "Ross" originated from in the name Robert Ross Rowan, it then appears to have been passed down quite a few generations.

I have a large cluster of dna matches which point back to a James P Ross, b Antrim 1715, d Rowan County, North Carolina in 1788. Rowan county was named after an uncle of Robert Ross Rowan.

The Ross family appears to have originated from David Ross (1644-1711) of Balbair, Ross Shire, Scotland and his wife Margaret Stronach.

I also have a paper trail to the Rowan name in Newry, Armagh. As you could guess from the above I am trying to find a link between the Ross and Rowan families in Counties Down or Armagh.
