Bernard William Franklin b1884
« on: Wednesday 25 July 18 16:18 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone!

Can you help please? My friends Grandfather served in the first World War. His name was Bernard William Franklin and was born circa 1884, Kingston upon Thames. We know he served in the Royal Fusiliers and have found his medal card. He is also listed as being awarded the Military Medal. Is anyone able to tell us when he was awarded this and for what service?

Thank you!

The Bernard W Franklin who was awarded the Military Medal had the regimental number STK/1285 (later 80890) and served in the 10th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers - the stockbrokers' battalion. According to the Royal Fusiliers medal roll he was Bernard Wallis Franklin. Do you have the right B W Franklin?

Bernard Wallis Franklin was born 1890 in Battersea.

You seemed certain about your man's service in the Royal Fusiliers but there are no medal cards for another BW Franklin in the same regiment (may have served at home of course).

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Part of his army file has survived and is viewable on FindMyPast (for those with a sub)

Good sleuthing ShaunJ.  (Age calculation from 1911 census not cross checked!)
