Ann DAINTY - Elusive Marriage 1830
« on: Wednesday 25 July 18 17:43 BST (UK) »
Circa 1992 two polite postal enquiries, with SAEs, received no response from the incumbent of Barton-under-Needwood for a look-up for a marriage c1830 between John HOLMES and Ann DAINTY, for which I would happily have paid a fee. After years on the 'back-burner', imagine my delight when I recently encountered images on-line at FindMyPast:

Barton-under-Needwood Marriage in the Chapel by Banns ... John Latham, Offg Minister.
01 Jun 1830     John HOLMES    (sgd)    otp    Bachelor
No 79                Ann DAINTY        (sgd)   otp    Spinster
Witnesses:        Mary HANSEN    (sgd) &  William DAINTY    (sgd)

Banns had been called at Barton-under-Needwood and Yoxall parishes but it appears on Ancestry there are some researchers who have risked hazardous guesses.    ::)

My response:  IGNORE the Ancestry guesses.  ;D

The parish register entry clearly states the truth, and everyone signed the register, what more do you need?

Not sure about the incumbent's response - but it was a long time ago  ;)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I personally don't need anything but it's evident that others do!  ;D  My time is too precious now to waste on correcting others' errors but as this platform has been useful for me in the past, it just might prove useful to others.  ;)

OK, it's after "wine o'clock" but I don't understand what your "problem" is  :-\  Your family is your concern, and you concentrate on what is CORRECT - what others see is their concern, let them get on with it  :o
