Mary Douglas and Patrick Sexton
« on: Thursday 26 July 18 16:46 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for help pinning these people down please.

Mary Douglas was born in Blackburn in 1856, and I know where she is in 1861 and 1871.
In 1874 she married Patrick Sexton, and although she was the informant of her mother's death in 1878, from there until her death in 1899 I just can't find her, or Patrick.

They had a son Thomas , born 1875, died 1876.  No other children known of.

Patrick is even more difficult to find.  I don't know when or where he was born, but possibly into one of the Irish families who settled in Blackburn, pure guesswork of course.

In the register for Mary's burial it states 'relict of Patrick', from which it is presumed that Patrick was dead, but I think we all know that in some cases a spouse may disappear, and the family may have said deceased, rather than abandoned.

I haven't looked at these relatives for a while, but suddenly found myself wondering again - as one does.
I would be very grateful for extra eyes.

Susan

What was Patrick's occupation on the 1874 marriage cert - if he was a mariner he may have died at sea

Sorry Carole, I don't have the marriage certificate yet, nor do I have her death certificate.   Mary is my 2xGt Aunt, and apart from what I already know, I've left her on the back burner so far.
She didn't die in a hospital though, not sure whose house, but in the street where family members were.

What reason do you have for wondering about a mental hospital?  Have you seen something which has eluded me?

Patrick is a mystery, and although I have seen records for a few of the same name, I don't believe any are him.

Thanks for that Heywood, it will be correct.  I only had 1875 from the registration indexes.
Where was it found?

Of course.  I mis-read your post, it is marriage not online!

Now that I'm back on Mary and Patrick I may check the fiche at the Research  Centre.

Thank you for the pointer.

Have you checked births and deaths in Ireland in case they went to stay there for a while?
What about army records?
It seems unusual that there was only one child.
