Burwell look-up? Hobbs / Prince
« on: Friday 27 July 18 13:42 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I have found (in someone else's tree) a reference to a marriage in Burwell on 8 Aug 1774 between William Hobbs and Susannah Prince, but there is no source information. Obviously I always like to confirm information found in this manner, but I cannot get to the Cambs Record Office. If anyone has access to the parish records, I would be very grateful to get confirmation of this?

I was also hoping that there may be evidence of baptisms for William and Susannah? I don't know their parents names or when or where they were born, but hoping this may also have been in Burwell.

The Hobbs family certainly seem to have a long connection with Burwell and descendent records all seem to be in the non-conformist records, so I am not sure if the marriage above would have been in the Church or the Chapel.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Thank you. I thought I had looked there, but just rechecked and found the marriage.

Still nothing for Baptisms for either of them though... I ended up downloading the full transcriptions for Burwell, but they’re not there. I suspect they may have come from nearby villages.

Thanks again.

I did not see anything obvious for the baptisms though you could be right about them being non conformist

Hello
The Hobbs family in Burwell are Henry and Frances Hobbs.
William's burial gives a birth 1745.(20 Dec 1833 of the Workhouse)

So could this be him
William s of Henry and Frances Hobbs 21 Feb 1748 Exning Suffolk?
It's only a couple of miles away.

Henry Hobbs buried Burwell 3 May 1791 widower pauper
Possible marriage at Fen Stanton 30 Dec 1747 to Frances Uly Hopkins

Frances wife of Henry buried Burwell 30.5.1777.
Other children at Burwell -Frances 4.3.1749,Frances 15.3.1752,Diana 27.2.1757,Henry 11.7.1762,

Sussannah gives a birth of 1758 on her burial 8.8.1828 of the Workhouse.
But nothings jumping out.

Many thanks for looking.
I have William’s burial in Burwell from the workhouse in 1833, but have his age as 80, which would make him born abt 1753?

I have found a baptism in Stetchworth in 1759 which I thought might be him as I couldn’t find anything else in Cambs, but hadn’t thought to look in Suffolk.

Somewhere else to explore further! Thank you.
