St Joseph's Industrial School for Girls (RC)
« on: Saturday 28 July 18 08:12 BST (UK) »
Hello

A member of my extended family was admitted to the above in 1905, following the death of her parents. Her elder sister was also admitted, and later discharged aged 18.  Both girls are there in the 1911 census. The elder sister returns to her place of birth (South Shields) and has a life which can be traced in parts at least.

The records which another researcher has accessed do not give a discharge date for the younger girl.

The following site has some very sad stories of girls who spent time at St Joseph's. A couple of these refer to some of the girls being encouraged to become domestic servants in other convents or institutions run by St Joseph's. Does anyone have an idea where some of these might be?

Just to say I have also seen the following:

Thanks for any help.

If you post her details someone may be able to help

Thanks Rosie.

My fault - I have amended my original post.

At this stage I am mainly interested in other institutions with which St Joseph’s had a connection and to which girls may have been sent.

Thanks for any help.
