George Waddington b1851 cant find on 1861 or 1871 census
« on: Saturday 28 July 18 09:09 BST (UK) »
Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help please.
I'm trying to locate what happened to a George Waddington who was born in Bethnal Green in 1851.  This is backed up by his birth registration indicating MMN is Merritt/Merrett.
I have his marriage in 1872 to Sarah Ann Allwright on 10th April 1872 and it lists his father as also called George Waddington a Waterman by trade.
Everything after 1872 I am fine with however I can't find him or his father George on the 1871 or 1861 census wierdly.
Can anyone help
Thanks
Phil

Hi Heywood
Yes I did see the 1851 listing thank you which I thought was encouraging but just strange how both George's seem to have disappeared from 1851 to 1871??

It would be best to post what you already have noted. We would know his mother’s name and siblings and would have saved searching and cross checking re 1851.

Young George was not born in 1851 so is missing from censuses after his mother’s death.

A birth certificate would show father’s name. If George was not raised by his father he might have invented a father on his marriage.

What was his occupation and address on his marriage and who were the witnesses?

If you have access to Ancestry, there are a couple of notes re Elizabeth Waddington in the London Remival and Settlement records.
August 1860
Harriett Waddington states that the mother of Elizabeth was never married and her right name is Merrett.
She is the illegitimate daughter of my sister, Susan.
The father of Susan was named George and was a Waterman in B G.

There is more to read -this is just a bit I transcribed.

That's great Heywood - thank you - I'll have a look at the record on Ancestry now

Apologies for not including my findings for possible family in 1851 also, sorry about that  :-X
