That's great Heywood - thank you - I'll have a look at the record on Ancestry now

Apologies for not including my findings for possible family in 1851 also, sorry about that  :-X

It just helps and saves time :)

Hmmm yeah things seem to match up there with that document but not the easiest in some parts to make out the words that are being written down.
I'll have a good look and from the names mentioned try and link these up  :) :) thanks again

Yes I found it difficult to read and a bit rambling so thought I would leave it to you. ;)

Not had much success finding Harriet or Mary.

There are a couple of G W inmates  born 1850, London in records but no evidence to direct you to George.

Was he a Carman when he married?

Hi Ray.

I am still working on this line of thinking and it is a bit complex.
So...
Benjamin WADDINGTON married Harriet COX in 1831at St Leonard Shoreditch. They were bachelor and spinster and one witness was Henry COX.

1841 census shows this couple at Tower Hamlets.
He is a car man aged 39 and born Middlesex and she is aged 21.
There are no children in the household.

There is a baptism record of interest....

In 1844 Mary Harriet WADDINGTON and Harriet WADDINGTON were both baptised at St Leonard Shoredith. The parents were Benjamin, a car man, and Harriet.

As you will know, the births of these two girls are listed as this

WADDINGTON, MARY  HARRIET   Mother  MSN MERRITT
1842  D Quarter in THE SHOREDITCH DISTRICT
Volume 02  Page 415

And
WADDINGTON, HARRIET Mother  MSN MERRITT
1844  M Quarter in THE SHOREDITCH DISTRICT
Volume 02  Page 484

In 1861 census
Benjamin WADDINGTON is 51 and Harriett 41(?) and they are still in the London area.
There are 4 WADDINGTON chldren between 1 and 15 years.
A child named George STEIN listed as a nephew and Susan MERRETT aged 20. Listed as his niece.

I'm sure you can look at the entry yourself.

So, Benjamin would seem to be the brother of the father of Susan. ::)

Sue

Great finds Sue - that looks most interesting. :)

I was looking for Harriet Merritt - so it looks a bit complicated.

Interesting that George Waddington named a son Benjamin yet gave his father as George on marriage.

Benjamin Waddington was in the Workhouse 1874-1876 and died in 1876.
