Kington is near Chippenham, Wilts. However, I could not find a William and a Nathaniel nr Chippenham. Rosie99 has found the most likely suspects.

Beenham is off A4 East of Newbury,
Griffiths Llandogo, Mitcheltroy, Mon. and Whitchurch Here (Also Edwards),  18th C., Griffiths FoD 19th Century.

rosie99 and Regorian..many thanks for your help so far.

Yes have been looking at the maps and area all afternoon, just wanted confirmation.

As to linking the three boys Nathaniel, William and John, yes
and I am fairly confidant they are all brothers.
There is a further brother Henry born 1815.

Richard is def listed on Johns death cert as father. Nothing much ever listed about Mother, Sarah. She was listed erroneously as Happley not Appleton.

I am just a bit hazey still on the William being sentenced to seven years in 1829 then a record of the census has him married in 1834. Is this the same William do you think?

My apologies to the error of Wiltshire/Staffordshire that should be Wiltshire/Berkshire

Further to the research on both William and Nathaniel... a fellow researcher has suggested that perhaps the William in question here is not the brother to Nathaniel but perhaps a cousin!

Also suggesting:. I think if he had been with Nat on this occasion, it would be documented somewhere.
As William went on to live a good life and have children and live to old age.

I'm not convinced given the points listed by rosie99 but how to prove that?

This is likely to be the Elizabeth that William married
Elizabeth Salter
Baptism    14 Sep 1803
Kington St Michael, Wiltshire
Parents Michael & Ann

I believe that the William married to Elizabeth and living with Richard in 1841 is Nathaniels brother.  There are other William Salter 'options' in the Chippenham / Kington area who could be the one sentenced with Nathaniel.
