Just following up on those 1916 press reports of the Munitions Tribunal. He attended in khaki;he said he had been wounded twice,  that his nerves were shattered from shell shock; that he had been brought back from the army as a blacksmith's helper.

This was the third time that he had appeared before the tribunal so there may be more reports to find.

The 1916 Tribunal report is my man for sure as the address is the one on his marriage certificate in Oct 1915. His occupation then was Private Border Regiment reserves. Can’t find any further mention of him in the Sheffield newspapers.

Thanks Gents for your help. I only just joined this site and didnt realise this work was being done on my behalf. I did find another JA Hirst with a war record whose DOB fits but I cant access it . Its on Find My past:    Hirst   John Alfred   1885   —   1904   British Army Service Records   Crich Carr, Belper, Derbyshire, England

The Belper man born 1884/1885 served in the Sherwood Foresters 1904 - 1910 when he was discharged with ignominy.
Doesn't seem to be connected with the Alfred Hirst of the Border Regiment?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thanks Max. I was having another discussion about this and possibly my John Alfred Hirst war records form part of the burnt records from 1941.
