Bounds of Ringwood
« on: Saturday 28 July 18 12:32 BST (UK) »
Hi a squeak for help as I'm totally new to Hampshire research.

Among some Scottish papers I've discovered a family Bible, which relates to the BOUND family of Ringwood- John & Emily (nee Earley) & their daughters Elizabeth (b 1844) & Mary Ann (b1846).

If anybody is researching the Bounds I should be very pleased to be in touch with them - especially if they could give me a clue on a connection with Scotland

Thank you
Maggott

John & Emily married 1843 and 1851 and 1861 entries show them all b Ringwood

Mary Ann married 1866 Ringwood to Frederick Colborne

Elizabeth married  Alfred Roland Brooks 1864 Southampton

I think any possible Scottish connection is way down the line

Be interesting though ;D

Thank you for that,  CaroleW.  It certainly is interesting- I'm quietly pulling my hair out.  Everything else in the collection seems to be nicely focused on Scottish families, then inexplicably (so far) these people from Ringwood pop up.  Ah well, if it was easy, it wouldn't be as much fun....

My Gt gt grandfather married Charlotte BOUND in 1863 at South Baddesley also in the New Forest.

I haven't researched her ancestry as it was his second marriage and I am descended from the first.

A couple of my Gt gt grandfather's uncles crewed the coal boats from the south coast to Sunderland and settled there.  One later moved to Leith in Scotland.

You'll need to track the daughters through the census etc. CaroleW has given you a start.

In 1881 &1891 Laura Gertrude Brooks (daughter of Elizabeth) b 1865 is with grandparents John & Emily Bound.  In 1901 she is a nurse in Lewisham and still unmarried in 1911

However - I think Laura married in 1912 to Charles Richardson and died Hampshire 1951 so we can rule her out

Thank you both very much-

I've got started on the records, as you both suggest & I've found a public family tree on Ancestry.  So plenty to get my teeth into.  Thank you Bearcat for the info about the shipping - the connection with Leith may well be the missing link.

Very best
