Thomas Arthur Glasier, 2147319 Fort Garry Horse. His time in Canada.
« on: Saturday 28 July 18 23:23 BST (UK) »
Hi  :) I am looking for a little help, if it is at all possible.

Thomas Arthur Glaiser / Glasier, was born in Thorne, Yorkshire, to Arthur Samuel Glasier and Emily Mary Johnson in 1888, he seems to have emigrated to Canada sometime between 1901 and 1911 (I cannot find him anywhere in 1911), he served with the  Fort Garry Horse (a Canadian Cavalry Regiment) and died on the 12th of August 1918 at a casualty clearing station and is remembered at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial Cemetery.

Is it possible for anyone to find any information about his time in the cavalry / arrival in Canada, etc, (I only hold a UK and Ireland ancestry subscription  :( ), any help or information would be gratefully received.

By very best regards and thanks as always for taking the time to read my post.

Frank  :)

You're very welcome. Those attestation papers are very informative.  He should be on the 1911 census - perhaps Moose Jaw Saskatchewan but haven't come across him so far.

Here is a link to the 1911 free census -

You may have already come across Thomas listed on Canadian Virtual War Memorial............

http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/memorials/canadian-virtual-war-memorial/detail/576017

T A Glasier also listed Canada, CEF Commonwealth War Graves Registers, 1914-1919 - died of wounds (gun shot wound to chest)

Hi Sandra, thank you so much for all of this information, its brilliant!
I am going to download his attestation papers and study it and the census etc, many thanks also for the information regarding the passenger list, I notice he is down as a "Auctioneer", that definitely fits, his father was also one.

Many thanks again for finding all of this for me, you are a star!
