Aww thank you Jim for explaining the terminology that is most helpful.  Hope you don't mind me veering off my query but I could have done with your help a few years ago my dad sent for his records before he died and his record confused him and  he was angry about omissions in his record about  a mission his anti tank battery was sent on .

Service records only give postings & transfers etc. Individual actions are not recorded.
James' record doesn't mention the Arras Offensive (3rd. Battle of the Scarpe) where he received his wound.

You won't find any TF service records. I think you need someone expert in 1908 TF units to try & identify the uniform.

You won't find any TF service records
This may have been a bit misleading. There are TF records bundled with WW1 service records.
They belong to men who were in the TF & were embodied at the outbreak of war. Others are for men attesting into one of the TF Battalions during the war.
If you get anything let us know.

This is positively, definitively not a British army uniform (though it is superficially similar to British Hussars and some TF Yeomanry uniforms).  The overall style is that of the pre-First World War German army, but it could be another German-influenced country, or fancy dress.

Yes, certainly not a strictly British regular uniform. The photo is such poor quality, it's impossible to identify.

He's wearing a pelise the fur lined jacket. The other jacket is called a dolman. He doesn't even look German. I can't think of any British Hussars that wore pelisses by this time.

Can't help further.
