Family not in 1939 recordings.. in forces
« on: Sunday 29 July 18 17:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all new to this .
Had some amazing help finding my forebears in the newbie section .
And found children of George edward Yates & Winifred kirkham
Arther/ Irene  in the 1939 check up  but no parents ?
Could they be in the forces? and how can you find them.
Sorry if posted in the wrong section

Hi
A kind member told me the children are living with people around 60 miles from known family address but no sign of parents at all

If they were in the forces they will not appear on the 1939 register.  It was done purely for the civilian population at that date.  It also does not cover Scotland

WW2 service records are only available through the Ministry of Defence and cost £30 per person.

If they were not in the Forces they would need at some time to register as it was used for the issue of ration books. Presumably the person who gave you the details for the children also looked for the parents.

Yes they could find no record of them , hence my guess the forces but maybe not .
Thanks for the tip about  ration books

I would not jump to the conclusion that they were in the forces unless you have a specific reason for doing so. Its far more likely that they are on the 39 somewhere badly transcribed - it happens a lot!

A tip for the future its best if you keep all related material in the same thread it saves people switching back and forth between threads and makes them more willing to help
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
