Several years ago I was rung out of the blue by a full cousin in England, I only knew of her by name. She was a lot younger than me and I had emigrated as a teenager. I have no idea how she found me in New Zealand except that it must have been through other cousins I had been in touch with or through message boards I had been on. Anyway we talked for over an hour and it was lovely to catch up with her news of the family. I learned later through an email from her partner that she had died suddenly...that was so sad.

Just an addition to the idea of written contact - which I have done both successfully and unsuccessfully - enclose a stamped addressed envelope, so that the recipient doesn't incur initial costs.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

....and an email address?   ;D  ;D
