Missing Manley family from 1841 and 1851 census, East London
« on: Monday 30 July 18 18:34 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for some help tracing the Manley family in the 1841 and 1851 census. William George (1808-1840) and Mary Manley (1807-1850) had 4 children, Susan Jane (1832-poss died in 1837), John Samuel (1835-1891), William George (1837-1897) and Charles James (1839-1843)

William George snr died before the 1841 census and his address was listed in 1840 as 42 Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green.
Charles James died in 1843 and his address was 3 Pateys Court, Holywell Lane, Shoreditch.

I'm thinking in 1840 with a young family to bring up Mary may have moved out of the area or had to put the children in an orphanage/workhouse

Any help finding Mary, John and William (jnr) in the 1841 census and John and William (jnr) in the 1851 census would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Have you tried just searching George Manly b 1837 as that's how I found them

Thanks Carole  :)

They are in the hackney Workhouse in 1838/1839....
Mary Manley, 29, admitted 28 Nov 1838, discharged 11 Feb 1839
John Manley, 3, ditto
Wm Manley,13mths, ditto.

I assume she was pregnant with Charles James at this time?

A possibility for William George Jr in 1851....

Hi,

there is a William Manley born Shoreditch 1835 living with his aunt and uncle Edward and Eleanor Parry in St Clement Danes - 1851 census. Checked marriage for Edward & Eleanor and her maiden name appeaars to be Canavan. There was a Mary Canavan in the Westminster area around 1820 so perhaps her sister??????

Do you know where Mary was from? Eleanor was from Shropshire.

J Manley Born approx 1832 in Cripplegate in 1851 census is a convict on the Warrior Hulk in Greenwich.

Hope it helps

Lindsey

Thanks Lindsey. Mary was very much routed in the East End in the Shoreditch area so I don't think the connection in Westminster is correct.

But thanks for looking
